Second Pallet Sorting Line for Rotom Belgium

Second Pallet Sorting Line for Rotom Belgium

Pallet sorting line number two will soon be delivered to Rotom Belgium by Pallet Sorting Systems. The new installation will be equipped with eight automatic stackers and a separate outfeed to an Airlift system for the manual sorting and stacking of special pallets.

The existing sorting line will remain in use at Rotom Belgium for processing Euro pallets. The new machine will be used specifically for sorting all other pallet sizes and designs. This will allow the various pallet flows to be efficiently divided between the two installations.

Pallet sorting line with eight automatic stackers

During the sorting process, the operator assesses each pallet according to type, quality and technical condition. Approximately 80% of all incoming pallets are expected to be automatically distributed across the eight stackers at high speed.

The most common pallet types will therefore be sorted and stacked without additional manual handling. This provides high processing capacity while reducing forklift movements and manual pallet handling.

The eight stackers will process the majority of the daily pallet flow.

Direct outfeed of non-repairable pallets

Pallets that can no longer be repaired do not need to travel through the entire installation. These pallets are removed from the main flow and discharged immediately after the sorting position.

This means that only usable or repairable pallets remain in the sorting process. It prevents unnecessary internal transport and ensures that the automatic stackers and manual sorting section are used only for pallets that still have sufficient value.

Airlift system for special pallets

Not all pallet types arrive in sufficient quantities to justify a dedicated automatic stacking position. These less common but still valuable pallets, known as specials, are transported via a separate roller conveyor to the manual sorting section.

Here, an employee uses an Airlift system to lift the pallets from the roller conveyor and stack them in the correct groups. The Airlift supports the weight of each pallet, allowing the employee to move and stack it safely and with less physical strain.

This combination of automatic and manual sorting provides Rotom Belgium with maximum flexibility:

  • approximately 80% is automatically distributed across eight stackers;
  • non-repairable pallets are discharged immediately;
  • valuable specials are transported to the manual sorting section;
  • the Airlift assists the employee with lifting and stacking;
  • smaller pallet flows can also be collected separately.

Complete registration of the sorting process

The control system of the Pallet sorting line records which pallet types are processed, how many pallets are sorted into each category and when they are processed.

A sorting report is automatically generated from this data. This gives Rotom Belgium clear insight into the composition of the incoming pallet flow and the quantities in each sorting category. The information can be used for production planning, stock management and further optimisation of the sorting process.

Second sorting line for additional capacity and flexibility

With this second Pallet sorting line, Rotom Belgium is creating an efficient separation between Euro pallets and other pallet types. The existing machine will continue to process Euro pallets, while the new installation will handle the broad mix of other pallets.

The combination of eight automatic stackers, a direct outfeed for non-repairable pallets and an Airlift system for specials creates a flexible and future-oriented sorting process.

Pallet Sorting Systems is proud that Rotom Belgium has chosen a PSS Pallet sorting line for the second time. We look forward to the production, installation and commissioning of this new machine.
